CHQ Architects Ltd operates out of Central London and Baldock, Hertfordshire. Since its formation in 1982, CHQ has grown into a substantial practice with a dedicated team of around 50 people.

We're very excited to announce that CHQ Architects Ltd and DMWR Architects Ltd have joined forces.

This represents the amalgamation of two outstanding award winning Practices with over 80 years experience in the business of Architecture.

The identical cultures and synergies that both Companies share, mean that this association will have an immediate positive impact.

With our combined resources, we very much look forward to being of continued service to you.

Should you have any questions please do get in touch.

We are also pleased to be part of the "Architect in the house " scheme, run in partnership by Shelter and the RIBA. The scheme matches homeowners with local architects for a free, hour-long consultation.

In return for our time, the homeowners are asked for a donation of £45 to Shelter, which they can use to help at least 2 families find a home this year. www.architectinthehouse.org.uk

Our talented mix of Architects, Interior Designers, 3D Visualisers, and Planning Supervisors enables CHQ to offer clients a wide field of expertise at all RIBA workstages from feasibility to completion and beyond.

Our design services cover all aspects, including new build, refurbishment, conversions, restoration works and building surveys.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the latest method being adopted for building design and production of construction documentation. The concept envisages virtual construction of a facility prior to its actual physical construction, in order to reduce uncertainty, improve safety, solve problems, and simulate/analyse potential impacts. To achieve this we are now using Autodesk's 'Revit Architecture' software.

CHQ is proud to be registered as a Chartered Practice with The Royal Institute of British Architects.

We are proud of our extensive client list, amongst who are to be found the country’s major household food and non-food retail operators, major contractors and developers across all sectors. Additionally major leisure operators, health care trusts, residential developers and government organisations combine to give CHQ a ‘blue chip’ client base.

We never underestimate the importance of understanding and fully interpreting the client brief and its role in delivering excellent design solutions. An awareness of client expectations, effective management, sound technical ability and pragmatism is what sets us apart from our competitors. CHQ Architects has a long standing reputation for producing and delivering innovative, sustainable developments within budget and on programme, as can be seen from the recommendations below.

“The projects were delivered on time and on budget, and this was largely due to the quality and attitude of all the team members including CHQ.

Referring specifically to CHQ it was reassuring to be working with an architect who had a good grasp of the client requirements and provided clear and concise design information and drawings that, so far as I was aware, fully addressed building and statutory obligations. Through their lead architect CHQ also provided a very personable approach when dealing with queries from the Main Contractor, the various stakeholders (me included) and in dealing with any client changes or changes of scope that came along.

It is on the basis of experience gained whilst working with CHQ on the JobCentre Plus Hampshire roll out that I would certainly consider CHQ for other assignments both in the public and private sectors, and am happy to recommend them to others.“

Peter Bannister, Director, Corner Consulting Limited

My first encounter with CHQ was in 1993 we were both, as we still are, ‘panel’ consultants for Sainsburys Supermarkets. Sainsburys have always required high standards of design and quality of performance from their consultants, and particularly their architects. Sainsburys have trusted CHQ with a considerable proportion of their development program over the years and it is a testament to them that they remain at the forefront of Sainsburys architectural ‘roll-out’.

The same design flair and cutting edge professionalism that has served them well with commercial retail clients has been applied to other areas of architecture with equal success.

The same design flair and cutting edge professionalism that has served them well with commercial retail clients has been applied to other areas of architecture with equal success. They are responsive to client’s needs, they are prepared to go the extra mile, they are good team players and they understand what ‘fast-track’ is and can achieve it without compromising quality or team communication.

We hope we can have the privilege of working with them for another 20 years......although I daresay I might personally be retired by then!

“WYG has had a close working relationship with CHQ for nearly two decades and we have been proud to have been involved in schemes with such high standards of architectural excellence. Delivering complex planning solutions for major schemes requires close and coordinated teamwork – CHQ have shown themselves to be exemplary team players”

Gary Morris, Regional Director, WYG Environment Planning Transport Ltd

Mayer Brown has provided consultancy advice to Sainsbury’s for more than 20 years and for the majority of this time we have worked closely with CHQ Partnership on the design and delivery of a large number of Sainsbury’s developments.

CHQ are enjoyable to work alongside and regularly demonstrate their ability to drive a project forward.

I and other members of the Sainsbury’s team at Mayer Brown respect CHQ’s approach to project delivery.  CHQ are enjoyable to work alongside and regularly demonstrate their ability to drive a project forward.  They have a practical approach to project delivery, are sympathetic to the often conflicting requirements of other members of the team and always seek to maximise return on a client’s investment.

We have found CHQ to be effective communicators and they consistently respond promptly to queries ensuring project delivery milestones are met.

CHQ has considerable experience in the food retail sector which they readily share with the project team to the benefit of both their clients and fellow professionals.

Tony Brown, Director and Chairman, Mayer Brown Limited

Staff Testimonials

"I have been with the CHQ family for over 9 years and am now an Associate Director. In that time i have worked on many different projects. My favourite was the Sainsbury's supermarket at Dawlish, which has won a number of awards for Sustainability, Business and The Built Enviroment. I have a keen interest in renewable energies as wall as producing and using free energy. At CHQ you get to experience many different construction methods as well as continuously working on CAD and Revit programs you gain a vast amount of confidence form your fellow co-workers who have supported me trmendously throughout the years. I couldn't work without my team. When I am not in the office, I am one of the top 5 Recurve Archers at Hinxworth Archery Club where we are in the top national division in the Selby League as well as being one of the top clubs in the country".

Robert Atkinson

"I joined the CHQ family, fresh from Fernhill High School with a strong head on my shoulders and a clear vision for my future. CHQ helped me to acheive my first qualification, a BTEC in Construction Technology and The Built Enviroment. CHQ has nurtured my personal developement and my career hand-in-hand. The welcoming and supportive atmosphere has encouraged me to push forward within this successful practice and always looking to progress and improve. We are a forward thinking practice providing all staff with training on Revit, not to mention the life skills i've picked up through Managerial Mentoring. I enjoy the camaraderie of my colleagues both at work and socially and being with CHQ I genuinely have a much more positive attitude towards life and bettering myself, and using this to help build up junior members of staff for thier benefit. I truly have confidence in the CHQ motto "Conceive, Believe, Achieve".

Ben Smith

"I studied at Kimbolton SChool, before going to Sheffield Hallam University to study Interior Design, Graduated with a BA Hons 2:1 degree in 2015, Ventured to Croatia for a month exploring until i came to CHQ in January 2016 to gain experience in a variety of sectors and to understand the workings of a proper Architectural practice but also to broaden my knowledge of interiors into other parts of architecture and to ddevelop my skills as a designer and have no regrets. No day is the same. We have so many sites and projects going on that there is a large variety of clients and different briefs going on at one time. It is a great place to gain experience as there is always something new to be working on and a great team within the office to help you learn new skills. At CHQ we enjoy a great cup of tea and are always ready to get stuck in".
